Online clothing and apparel store, Zappos.com, is using naked women and QR codes in their ad campaign that is going to be launched this month, just in time for fall.
The tastefully done nudes feature women in different athletic activities such as jogging, running and playing frisbee.
Created by Mullen Advertising, the ads would also feature QR codes that when scanned would take users to a mobile site. From there, they can select articles of clothing for the naked women, and then have the option to buy it for themselves.
Henderson, Nevada-based Zappos reported $840 million in revenues in 2007, close to multiplying their $8.6 million sales figure in 2001, and far beyond the minimal sales they had in their maiden year two years before.
While generally known for shoes, Zappos has been expanding to other clothing lines as well. This has been the inspiration of the current ad campaign that features the tagline “More than Shoes”.
QR Codes to Tell — and Sell — a Story
What Zappos has done here is a brilliant and creative use of the QR code. Without the QR code, it would be easy to dismiss the campaign as salacious or saucy. But because of the inherent ability of the code to bridge offline materials with the online world, the campaign makes sense.
QR codes help expand what you could do with your traditional marketing. In Zappos’ case, QR codes made it easier for the company to create a unique user experience, while getting people to explore their products and fortify their brand!
