McDonald’s Uses QR Codes to Reinforce Healthy Image

McDonald’s is one of the official sponsors of the London Olympics this year, and they are trying to show people that they have adopted a healthier menu.

At the fast food chain’s Olympic Park branch, McDonalds have put up QR codes, which when scanned would give diners detailed nutritional information about their food. McDonald’s chief brand officer, Kevin Newell, says that by next year, a majority of their restaurants would have the same QR codes.

The QR codes are part of a series of moves from the fast food chain to give itself a new image. Aside from the nutritional information provided by the QR codes, they have also come up with lower-calorie menus in the United States. They revealed that most of the items on their menus have less than 400 calories in it.

Meanwhile, their Happy Meals in Canada have included fruits and vegetables, as well.

Social Trading Cards, Anyone?

MeetMeme is a new service that allows you to put all your social media profiles in one card. You can give your trading card to a new acquaintance or an old friend and when they scan the QR code at the back of the card, they will be taken to a page where they could choose from a list of social networks and add you there.

That’s how you can use it for yourself, and we do agree that it sounds creepy to have every social media account you have open for everybody, but that is what makes this a great tool for promoting your events. You can put up details of your event, even include some pictures and have people follow you on Twitter or add you on Facebook so that they could be updated about your events. They could also subscribe to your YouTube account for any videos you might have and Flickr for any photos.
