This new introduction is due to Sprint’s partnership with 2D barcode provider Scanbuy Inc. Scanbuy Inc. is an international leader in the mobile marketing solutions industry. With this new partnership, Scanbuy’s Scanlife system is conveniently made available to Sprint users. For existing Sprint customers, all they have to do is to type ‘SCAN’ and sent the message to 70734 and they will be given instructions on how to download the 2D barcode scanner into their mobile phones.
What can customers do with the new 2D barcode scanner? Well, for one, you can walk past a movie poster, see a 2D barcode on it, scan it and get instant access on your mobile phone to web links, videos, music, synopsis, who’s starring in the movie, interviews, price of tickets and how to book tickets, trailers, etc. Right there and then, you can make a decision on whether to watch the movie or not.
Although 2D barcodes is extremely popular in other parts of the world, strangely enough, Americans have yet to get catch on the wave. Hence, 2D barcodes is not yet part of what we call the mainstream media in the country. However, with this new introduction, their use may have just received a big huge boost.
2D barcodes is like a dream-come-true for advertisers and the big brands. It saves time, space and money as it takes very little space (and dollars) to advertise using 2D barcodes. These 2D barcodes are so versatile that there is no question as to how big it is going to be to the average American, but the question would most likely be how quick it’s going to hit us. And that is something that we will find out soon enough.
