ScanMedQR.com Puts Medical Records in QR Codes

ScanMedQR.com is a startup company that uses QR codes to deliver medical information with just one scan.

There is a story behind why owner Eric Richardson came up with these QR codes. His mother suffered a mild heart attack. She also had diabetes and epilepsy, the reason why she was taking medication of different kinds.

Richardson thought that there should be some way for medical professionals and rescue teams to get medical information, especially if the patient is unconscious or otherwise not responsive.

ScanMedQR.com manufactures silicon bracelets that have quick response codes on them. An emergency rescue or health professional could use their smartphones and scan the QR code and they will be shown the patient’s own medical homepage. These pages are also hosted by ScanMedQR.com

If you don’t like the looks of silicon bracelets, you can also have the QR codes on a beautiful necklace or stored away on a credit card sized card in your wallet.

The service is subscription-based. For $5 monthly, you can easily get your website hosted by ScanMedQr.com. The bracelets and necklaces sell for $10 each.

If you are concerned about other people scanning the QR codes when you are just reading the newspapers on a park bench, no need to worry as you can opt to have the QR codes printed inside the bracelet. Health professionals, however, would be able to recognize the company logo on the outside of the bracelet and know that there’s a QR code on the other side of the bracelet to scan.

Richardson is also working on a way to educate medical professionals and emergency team workers to know how to recognize the bracelets and what to do with them.

This is a great idea because we all have heard of people who suffer more because they were given the wrong first aid or the wrong medications in an emergency where they were alone and lost consciousness. Having the bracelets with the QR codes is like carrying around their medical records in a very convenient way. The QR codes make their vital health information available and accessible at a crucial time.
