Remembering the Dearly Departed with QR Codes

We have heard about QR codes being used in tombstones in Japan. The Japanese think of everything, right? Well, not surprisingly because they have had the QR codes in use over there for close to two decades.
But it seems that a company in Minnesota is coming up with its own version of the QR code. Funeral Innovations in Rochester has come up with what it calls remembrance codes. Basically, the company creates innovative memorials for the deceased, including slide shows, videos, and even iPad apps for funeral directors. Around three months ago, the company introduced QR codes.
These QR codes, or Remembrance Codes, are put on tombstones. When scanned, these codes would take you to an online obituary of the deceased.
These codes are also placed on materials that are given out to mourners or are placed alongside the guest book. The QR code that is seen beside the guest book allows the scanner to check into the venue, very much like what people do on foursquare.
It may sound like the ultimate vanity, but it is very well-received by the company’s customers. After family and guests are educated about the QR codes, they were scanning them to see what has been written about their dearly departed.
And for those opting for a cremation, the company also offers memorial plaques with a QR code on them.
