Whether you are a stay at home mom or a working mom, the priorities are more or less the same – budgeting and shopping for the family. In a bold move, we received reports about how the Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trusts (PREIT) is engaging mommies in the state to help them shop easier, faster and more affordably. Let it be known that PREIT manages and/or owns approximately forty malls in and around the state, and they have made it a point to show shoppers that they are willing to use technology to bring information into the homes of their consumers.
PREIT launched a smartphone mobile application for iPhone recently which enhances shoppers’ shopping experience with a click of the scan button. By scanning a simple QR Code, consumers get access to features to plan their trip. The QR Code’s been printed onto many of their advertisements in the papers, in magazines, in their websites, flyers and also posters as per their marketing strategy.
How does it help consumers ‘enhance’ their shopping experience? By scanning the 2D barcode with their smartphones, shoppers will come up to a page where they get to choose between finding out more information about the latest trends, access photos of products that they might be interested in or visit specifically-designed sites for retail outlets in the malls for coupons, promotions and future events they might be interested in.
The marketing team have also included a map of the mall to ease confusion of consumers via the QR Code. The website also included a ‘vacancies available’ feature for the unemployed. It comes up in a pop-up box on the smartphone so as to not interrupt the surfing experience.
On top of that, within the marketing strategy, PREIT also aims to increase their followers and friends on online social networking sites with the QR Code too. As if that is not enough, it help promote movies being shown in the malls with an opt-in feed. Soon, it was said, consumers can expect just a little bit more than the malls – you will find a feed of tweets coming in from the retailers themselves…all on one page. Here’s where people can find sales, promotions and special offers LIVE.
All of this is very interesting but we would like to know that this big marketing move includes hiring a team of people to monitor the stream because online social media, including QR Code technology, means interaction. All this hoopla would have to come with plans to engage their consumers.
So, moms in Pennsylvania….get on your smart phones and be in on the trend.
