During the first few days of December, the total number of mobile apps available online have reached 1 million. Yes, that’s right, we now have more than one million apps that work on Android, iOS and other platforms!
Mobile apps have made it possible for people to use programs and services that were once exclusive only for desktop computers, and made it usable on mobile devices. Before, if you wanted to update your Facebook status or play games, you would need to boot your desktop computer to do so, but now, you only have to reach for your phone.
It’s not really that surprising. Mobilewalla, an app navigation service, estimates that there are around 15,000 new apps on the average released every week. That’s 150 times more than the number of new movies released globally and about 60 times more the number of new books published!
It may not be surprising, but it’s still awe-inspiring. As of October 2008, there were only 8,000 mobile apps available. It was 100,000 two years ago and now, only a little more than three years later, that number has breached the 1 million mark.
Making an app nowadays is very easy. You don’t have to go through hardware manufacturers anymore, you just need to know the platform you want to use. It is true that just about anyone can build an app.
If you are a small business, consider creating an app that promotes your products and strengthens your brand. If you have a great idea for an app, then you can certainly outsource the coding and the creation of the app.
Once people see your app and determine its usefulness, they will be able to download it and use it. They could also recommend it to their friends because of its utility. It really is a great way to build your brand and give it top-of-mind recall for your customers.
