Make User-friendliness Top Priority When Launching QR Code Campaigns


Because QR Code technology is a relatively new technology in the United States, there is all the more reason to pay special attention to how we introduce it to consumers. One good example of a ineffective way to introduce QR Codes can be seen from Canadian magazine, Hush Magazine. The magazine very quickly latched onto the idea of printing QR Codes in their magazine. Along with articles, pictures and advertisements, you can see QR Codes being displayed with them. Although there is nothing wrong with the action itself, what they should consider changing is to use a more generic type of QR Code. The current type of QR Code they use is not accessible to smart phone or android phone users unless they download and install a specific QR Code reader called Mobio. It was also reported that without the QR Code reader, mobile phone users will only see some a string of text.

On the flip side of the coin, it was also reported that UK’s Domino’s Pizza made a sizzlingly good move with a new mobile phone QR Code campaign. The pizza chain recently came up with a brand new pizza recipe called the Spanish Sizzler and they are actively and aggressively promoting the pizza by handing out flyers and brochures to its loyal customers and on the street.

Not only does Dominos’ QR Code resolve to a brand new website loaded with advertisements for various popular English dailies, it will also lead interested consumers to an online ordering page.

In view of how new the technology is, tolerance is at a very low level. We have to make QR Code extremely user-friendly in order to climb over the initial wall of resistance. People are not very patient and they need to know what is in it for them.     That clarifies things for me a bit. I wasn’t sure which QR code was best to use so that the most people could scan it.
