Steed Lord’s lead singer and pop star Kali is the latest star to don a QR code dress. The Icelandic star has been known to sport quirky clothes, reminiscent of Lady Gaga. Now her latest fashion coup involves QR codes.
Designed by London’s Thorunn Arnadottir, the QR codes are featured in different designs. Each QR code resolves to varied content, images, websites and even text. The designer has called the dress a “super self-promotional dress” as scanners could easily access Steed Lord’s videos, other music sites and even an animation about QR codes itself.
Arnadottir used precious Swarovski crystals to make the QR codes
Arnadottir also created eyemasks to go along with the beaded masterpiece. When scanned the QR coded eyemasks resolve to a charity donation page.
The eyemasks, however, present a playful take on charity donations. The idea was taken from the masks used by the famous in Venice, or even the sunglasses worn by Hollywood stars. Dubbed as “privacy glasses”, celebrities could wear these and keep their identities hidden from the public. People could scan the QR codes and will be given the chance to pay a set sum that goes to charity. Once they do so, the identity of the celebrity behind the QR coded masks will be revealed.
Once again, QR codes have been used to create highly creative and individualized fashion. It is really as vehicle for strong fashion statement. But what’s more important is that these QR codes make it possible to have something like the privacy glasses concept. Only with QR codes could you implement an astounding idea like that!
