Donate Life New England is operated by the New England Organ Bank and is considered to be the oldest independent organ donation organization in the country.
Donate Life New England hopes that the QR codes would attract new and younger potential organ donors, who they note are much more responsive to interactive ads such as QR code posters and flyers than to traditional marketing materials.
Donate Life New England will be putting up the QR codes in a variety of print materials and the same will be used in various marketing campaigns.
Interested organ donors can scan the QR codes and be taken to the New England Organ Bank mobile website. From there, they could read on how to donate money and how the organ bank works, among other things. They would also be able to fill up forms signifying their consent to become organ donors.
Donate Life New England hopes that their QR code efforts would encourage other non-profits and charity causes to also take up QR codes for their marketing campaigns.
BeQRious have already reported on how QR codes are used for charity, such as giving a QR coded card to a needy person that he or she can use to purchase needed things.
We have also reported on CityHarvest.org’s efforts with QR codes, aiming to feed New York City’s hungry, and our sister site, Custom QR Codes also reported on how Simons on the Streets used QR codes to help raise funds for the homeless in Yorkshire UK.
There is also an old discussion on how to use QR codes for charity here: http://qrforum.beqrious.com/showthread.php/126-QR-codes-for-charity
Trivia: the first charitable organization that used QR codes is Bullying UK.
