Another QR Code Move from USPS

It seems that the United States Postal Service is bent on using QR codes for its marketing. This time around, they have included a QR code in their stamps.

BeQRious has earlier talked about the continuing summer QR code discount promotion that USPS has here and here. And of course, one of their earlier QR code efforts such as this.

BeQRious has also been very honored that USPS chose us to help their visitors and customers understand how QR codes work.

Now, USPS is using QR codes again to help promote their new stamps. Look out for their postage stamps featuring Edith Piaf and Miles Davis. They put up a QR code at the back. When you scan the QR code, you are taken to a mobile site that allows you to listen to the music by Miles Davis. The site also features a timeline of the milestones of both musician’s lives. This is a joint project of the USPS and the French postal administration, La Poste.

The choice of Piaf and Davis is because each are music legends who were able to transcend borders. Piaf grew up in France and was one of the very few French singers who became a sensation in the United States. Davis, on the other hand, is well loved in France and was even a Chevalier in the Legion of Honor, as well as being recognized as an honorary citizen of Paris.

From the landing page, you also get the option to email it to a friend, share on either Twitter or Facebook, and get to know more about Edith Piaf, Miles Davis and the project itself.

If you collect stamps or know somebody who does, you can give them a commemorative folio that you can buy on the site. You can also buy a pane of 20 for $9, blocks of eight or four stamps for only $3.60 and $1.80 respectively, among other choices.
